چکیده
This study demonstrates that the zeros of diagonal components Green functions are key quantities can detect noninteracting topological insulators. We show traverse band gap in phases. The traverses induce crosses zeros, and zeros' surface gap, analogous to Fermi metals. By calculating microscopic models, we universally appear all six classes conventional utilizing eigenvector-eigenvalue identity, which is a recently rediscovered relation linear algebra, prove bulk guaranteed by inversions, occur relevance detecting exotic insulators such as higher-order also discussed. For Hamiltonians with nearest-neighbor hoppings, gapless edge state guarantees surfaces gap. analysis be used wide range thus useful for searching new materials.

Plasmonics in Topological Insulators
With strong spin-orbit coupling, topological insulators have an insulating bulk state, characterized by a band gap, and a conducting surface state, characterized by a Dirac cone. Plasmons in topological insulators show high frequency-tunability in the mid-infrared and terahertz spectral regions with transverse spin oscillations, also called “spin-plasmons”. This paper presents a discussion and ...
متن کاملSchwinger Model Green functions with topological effects
The fermion propagator and the 4-fermion Green function in the massless QED2 are explicitly found with topological effects taken into account. The corrections due to instanton sectors k = ±1, contributing to the propagator, are shown to be just the homogenous terms admitted by the Dyson-Schwinger equation for S. In the case of the 4-fermion function also sectors k = ±2 are included into conside...
متن کاملTopological crystalline insulators.
The recent discovery of topological insulators has revived interest in the band topology of insulators. In this Letter, we extend the topological classification of band structures to include certain crystal point group symmetry. We find a class of three-dimensional "topological crystalline insulators" which have metallic surface states with quadratic band degeneracy on high symmetry crystal sur...
متن کاملTopological Insulators and Superconductors
We study theoretical properties of robust low energy electronic excitations associated with topological insulators and superconductors. The bulk materials are described by non-interacting single particle band Hamiltonians with a finite excitation gap. Their topological phases are classifed according to symmetries and dimensions, characterized by discrete bulk invariants, and correspond to topol...
